Thesis,

Labour significantly contributes to industrial and economic growth in the Country. In newlinethe economy, Labour Class is the prime segment which contributes to the Gross newlineDomestic Product of the Nation. Economic necessity compels the poor to choose newlineunorganized employments for their livelihood. The Unorganized Sector is featured newlinewith weak employer and employee relations, lack of social protection, high mobility, newlinemigration, casual nature of work, contractual employments, weak distribution newlinechannels, lack of government support etc. Illiteracy and ignorance have hampered the newlineright of Unorganized Labourers by reducing their bargaining ability. newlineIn spite of having Constitutional safeguards, policies and Unorganised Workers Social newlineSecurity Act, 2008 the labourers working in this unorganised sector are susceptible to newlinephysical, social and economic exploitation. Fisherfolk who engage in the fishing and newlineallied activities are among the unorganised labour force of the country. They are also newlinedeprived off many social security benefits offered to Organised Sector. Developing newlineeconomy demands elimination of poverty through employment and income newlinegeneration. In this regard, Fisheries Sector is gaining momentum for its ability to newlineprovide employment, nutritional supplement, income, Foreign Exchange etc. newlineFisheries Sector absorbs labour at very low cost compared to other sectors. Any newlineattempt made to regulate and control the Fisheries Sector may also hinder the labour newlineabsorption capacity of the sector. The aim of this Study is to review the implications newlineof Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008 and Social Security schemes and newlineprogrammes on the basis of recent Social Security Code, 2020. This Study gives newlineextensive understanding about various Social Security Protections offered to the newlinefisherfolk working as unorganized labourers in the light of law, policies, international newlinestandards, treaties and judicial Interpretations.
