Summary, etc Indian Higher Education (IHE), with 900+ universities and 50,000 + colleges, has significantly contributed in making India, a modern nation. During the last 2 decades, the exponential growth in IHE has opened vast opportunities for The Indian youth. 'Access, Equity & Excellence' has been the hall mark of policy making in IHE. After creating institutions, universities and ensuring intake of study in sufficient number, IHE is now destined to shift its focus and greater thrust on improving the quality at all levels.
In recent years, both the union and state government have initiated series of reforms to focus on quality improvement. World over Quality Assurance (QA), accreditation and rankings have been used as a bullwork to improve quality on continuous basis. In India, NAAC, NBA and some other national agencies have been working for more than two decades or so for providing accreditation services to institutions and universities. In 2016, MHRD Introduced the National Institutional Ranking Frame Work (NIRF) for meeting the challenges of global rankings. Eminent contributors in this book present a snapshot of quality assurance practised in India.
They argue that there is a dire need of revamping our accreditation system by making it more transparent, digital, nurturing and futuristic. They have critically analysed learnings from many success stories and also discussed failures in the national endeavour to improve quality IHE. Indian models of QA, accreditation and ranking have been bench-marked against the global model by the learned contributors.
