Summary: New Education Policy 2020: A look at the proposals on curriculum, courses and medium of instruction, and the takeaways for students. schools and universities. The National Policy on Education (NPE) is a policy formulated by the Government of India to promote education amongst India's people. The policy covers elementary education to colleges in both rural and urban India. The first NPE was promulgated in 1968 by the government of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the second by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1986. The government of India has appointed a new committee under K. Kasturirangan to prepare a Draft for the new National Education Policy in 2017. In its policy declaration the Government of India stated that the Government is convinced that a radical reconstruction of education on the broad lines recommended by the education commission is essential for economic and cultural development of the country for national integration and for realizing the ideal of a socialistic pattern of society. In a significant shift from the 1986 policy, which pushed for a 10+2 structure of school education, the new NEP pitches for a "5+3+3+4" design corresponding to the age groups 3-8 years (foundational stage), 8-11 (preparatory), 11-14 (middle), and 14-18 (secondary). This book comprehensively covers the different aspects of education in the emerging Indian society. This book provides an exhaustive treatment of the subject in a very lucid and cogent manner.
